TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER
John Stewart, L.A.M.E.
With many years of senior maintenance engineering and management experience, John Stewart has a critical eye for risk factors and an uncompromising approach to safety in aviation.
John is an Australian Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (CASA), USA FAA A& P Mechanic, a Flight Safety Foundation BARS-Accredited Auditor and a Certified ISO Quality Lead Auditor. He has also held Head of Aircraft Airworthiness and Maintenance Control appointments as per the Civil Aviation Act and CASA Maintenance Controller Appointments.
John has worked with numerous charter, business and large jet aircraft types and worked in aircraft maintenance for CAR 30 Maintenance Organisations; corporate and low/high-capacity domestic and international RPT operators; as well as charter and specialised operations such as aero-medical and search and rescue. A number of these roles included substantial charter and medical evacuation services to the Resources Industry.
Reflecting John's in-depth expertise, he has undertaken many audits on aircraft, aircraft maintenance programs, flight operations and safety systems during his career. John has developed, reviewed and tested maintenance and safety systems and operational manuals, performed aircraft pre-purchase inspections and conducted analyses of aircraft for operational suitability.
In many of his roles, John was in management and senior executive positions, including Head of Aircraft Maintenance Control and Airworthiness, General Manager of Engineering, and Chief Inspector. He has been responsible for ensuring the consistent reliability and safety of entire fleets for RPT, private and charter operations as well as operational budget development and implementation.
For five years, John was stationed in Russia to support a closed-charter and medical evacuation operation where he handled engineering and maintenance issues, including negotiation of support contracts with local suppliers, staff recruitment, logistics management, spares management, technical library management and management of all support equipment. The Russian environment is particularly challenging for aviation professionals who face dilapidated infrastructure, a complex and obstructive set of regulatory controls, extreme weather conditions, difficult geography, lack of spare parts supply, lack of suitably qualified staff, and a low tolerance for cost exceedances.
